Character Information

Character Name: Euphemia li Britannia ("Euphie")
Character Series: Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally
Character Age: 16
Character Gender: Female
Original Canon/Alternate Universe
Canon Point: Post series.
Background Link: Nightmare of Nunnally's plot in general, and Euphie's role in specific.

All the characters in Nightmare of Nunnally are the same as they are in normal Code Geass canon; only the events and the driving force behind them have changed. I'm perfectly willing to accept this character as an Alternate Universe instead of an Original Canon because of this fact.
Personality: Euphemia li Britannia was born a princess, and as such, she carries herself with all the grace and elegance as someone born of privilege should. She is very refined and polite, and speaks rather formally even in casual situations; she is also exceptionally mature for her age, and bears a lot of responsibility on her shoulders, something that only increases once she is crowned Empress. Despite this maturity and this grace, Euphie is in constant doubt of herself. She has a habit of questioning and second guessing everything she does, and even when she does go through with something, she still questions if her choice was right. This often leads to chiding from others (usually Suzaku or her sister), as her ideas and executions of said ideas are usually sound. The best example of this is when it is revealed that her elder brother had already set in motion the steps to allow her to be crowned Empress, granting her the authority to re-establish the Britannian Empire after their father had abolished it. She did not believe that she was the right person for such a responsibility, especially with her much stronger warrior sister. At the encouragement of Suzaku and Cornelia, Euphie found the courage to step up and accept the responsibility, and held herself high as she set in motion the united effort against her father soon after.

Though she is usually serious in affairs of state, normally Euphie is very upbeat, bright, and cheerful; she has a lot of love to give, and she isn't afraid to give it to everyone, even if they do not treat her kindly. Though her position prevents her from directly helping people, she is the type of person that would hike up her skirt and get dirty, so to speak. She especially loves her family more than anything else, even if she does have the most messed up family in the history of messed up families. Lelouch and Nunnally hold a very special place in her heart, as she often spent her time growing up playing with them in their mother's garden. It's because of that fondness that she is hesitant to approach Nunnally near the start of the manga, even though she knows she's still alive and where she is, and also because she would not forgive herself if she asked her half sister to participate in a political idea of hers when she knows she is trying to hide from the public light.

As mentioned, Euphie has a lot of love for her family. Naturally, she is very close to her sister, Cornelia, and admires her for her strength of character and resolve to see her plans through to the end. The two of them are often sent together for diplomatic situations (in Japan, Cornelia replaces Clovis as governor, while Euphie takes the position as vice governor), and she often stands in her sister's shadow, quietly supporting her while handling the more political end of government affairs. She holds a lot of respect for Schneizel, not only because he is the eldest, but because in Nightmare of Nunnally he is a truly kind young man that wants to protect his family and country. Lelouch was her first love; she was very much fond of him growing up, and would often sit by and watch him and Schneizel play chess together just to be by him. Her adoration for Lelouch extended to Nunnally, and even after so many years apart, Euphie is still as fond of her half-sister as she was when they were children. Beyond family, Euphemia's position does not give her many opportunities to interact with others on a personable level. Suzaku is obviously an exception to this; though how exactly they met is never revealed in Nightmare of Nunnally, she obviously has a lot of care for Suzaku, potentially bordering on a romantic interest. She does appreciate his council, and his willingness and devotion in protecting her. In the end, when Suzaku has no need to serve as her knight now that Japan is free from Britannian rule but chooses to stay by her side anyway, she feels comfortable enough to tease him, wishing he would be honest and say that he just wanted to be with her.

Despite her insecurities, Euphemia is very strong willed and a positive thinker. It's hard to get her to do something she finds reprehensible; she is a pacifist at heart, and only raises the flags of war when the entire world is at risk of total destruction. In Nightmare of Nunnally, she is never shown taking up arms personally, but she is brave enough to step into a fight between two Knightmare Frames in order to break them up. Even after her father's defeat, she takes the peaceful route to try to heal the ills committed by the Britannian Empire and the Numbers system, even against those that would rather respond with violence. she truly believes that through her hard work and dedication, along with the support of the people around her, the world can achieve peace and become the kind and gentle world that Nunnally desired.
Abilities: She's just a normal human being...

However.

There is the possibility that Euphie, like her father and some of her other family members, was born as a "Wired"; in other words, an individual that has the ability to use the powers of the Geass without forming a contract. This Geass is entirely dependent on the person, and usually works together with their personality or the motivations that drive them. Whether she actually is or not is up for debate; Euphie has a very bit part, and not much of who she is and what she does is really talked about in Nightmare of Nunnally, instead relying on Code Geass canon to show her character, and just using her to progress the story. She never shows she is capable of this, nor is she the type that would make use of it even if she could (as most Wired Geass powers are usually pretty world bending). At the same time, she's never in a situation where she would need to be saved by random sudden God powers.

I personally would like to explore this, and her reactions to suddenly obtaining a power she didn't even know she had, but as she is not canonically shown with powers, I will understand if this is not acceptable.
Sample Entry: So many people were suffering.

It was hard for her to walk about the Tower, knowing that there were so many around her that had lost their worlds, lost their families, and like her, were stuck as prisoners of this horrible place. Those that controlled the Tower claimed themselves their saviors, but it didn't take much for Euphemia to see that this was a lie. The people trapped here were really pawns; toys to take out and play with before putting them away, broken and barely functioning. It reminded her of her father, and his many speeches about how men were not created equal by God, and therefore did not have the right to be treated equal; these manipulators obviously felt the same way.

And here she was, Empress of the great nation of Britannia, and there was so very little she could do about it.

Euphie had not felt this powerless since that moment before she accepted her position; scared and singled out, put on the spotlight, expected to take a responsibility that she had not felt she deserved. She had just gotten into the motions of cleaning up the pieces, trying to build the kind and gentle world they all wanted with her bare hands and calming words, only to have that all -- supposedly -- torn away from her, leaving her helpless, scared, and this time alone, all over again. Most people would crack under such extremes, and there were many times where she wanted to do just that, but there was no way she could allow herself to do so. Even if her world was gone, she was still a representative of Britannia, and she had an obligation to leave a good impression, even if these people were from worlds vastly different from her own.

If only she could find a way to help these people better... perhaps offering first aid to those that needed it? Or maybe even food; the cafeteria in this place was dreadful. She could try to learn to cook to help those that could not, and maybe provide the love found in home cooking to those that needed it. It was worth a try, and a start at the very least. She paused her aimless walk through the Tower halls, nodding in determination, before turning around and heading for the cafeteria to practice.
